Our Commitment to Ensuring a Safe Environment . . .
“The church community has a special obligation to children [sic, and vulnerable adults] that it carries out with seriousness. In the church’s ordinary life, children are educated in the faith and initiated into the church’s sacramental life. Parishes devote significant energy and resources to the development of their young members, and countless individuals have dedicated themselves to ministering to youth. Everyone in the community has a responsibility to protect children [sic, and vulnerable adults]—parents, clerics, educators, youth ministers, volunteers working with youth, even youths themselves, and adults who are not directly involved in work with children.”
Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington’s Decree in response to the USCCB’s directives, November 1992.
All new volunteers--as of July 1st, 2016, FIRST, should complete a Volunteer Application / Solicitud de Servicios Voluntarios and give it to the leadership of the ministry in which you will serve or to Laura Hack in the parish office.
After submitting your volunteer application, new volunteers must go to the Diocese of Lexington's Safe Environment Compliance webpage to participate in Catholic Mutual Group Connect--The Diocese of Lexington's training site. The site can be accessed by smart phones, smart pads, or personal computers.***
***As of July 1st, 2016, the Diocese of Lexington began implementing a new Safe Environment Compliance program-- CMG Connect. A joint effort between our diocesan offices and each parish will be loading all information for previously compliant volunteers into the new system and hope this to be completed in the fall. (Please be advised that at some point during this process you will no longer be able to access your account or monthly bulletin with www.Virtus.org--the new CMG Connect does not require the completion of a monthly bulletin.) As with all new programs we expect many questions from users and coordinators, alike. We ask for your patience as we try to support this tremendous effort by our Diocese of Lexington's Office of the Chancellor. Please contact Laura Hack if you have questions or concerns. We appreciate you letting us know if you have difficulty in accessing the new program or with its usability.
