Summer Book Studies will feature Thoughts Matter: Discovering the Spiritual Journey by Sr. Mary Margaret Funk, OSB. This book, based on the wisdom of the Desert Fathers and Mothers, gives theory and practice for doing "inner work" to renounce thoughts belonging to the world around us. From the cover, "Sr. Meg Funk instructs readers on how effectively to overcome these thoughts and to focus instead on thoughts in harmony with God's will. The result is an experience of joy, hope, and freedom from enslavement to our appetites. Readers will come away enlightened, strengthened, and inspired to delve more deeply into a life of intimacy with God."
Discussion begins in person on Monday, May 9, from 11 am-1 pm and on Thursday, May 12 on zoom from 7-8 pm. Additional participants are welcome to both groups.
The in-person group will meet at 211 Hiawatha Trail from 11 am to 1 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays during May, June, and July, beginning Monday, May 9 (6 sessions). They will include a shared pot-luck lunch.
The zoom group will meet online from 7 to 8 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays during May, June, and July, beginning May 12 (6 sessions).

Pope Francis has pushed Church teaching into new frontiers in economics, ecology, and the human family. We all need to hear what he has to say. Unfortunately, there are so many things being said about Pope Francis that it can be difficult to find his authentic message. In a perfect world we might read the documents he himself has published, but these are often long and deep, taking more time to digest than today's busy world allows.
To help with this problem, the Catholic Diocese of Lexington has published a few small study booklets. These cover the major writings of Pope Francis, breaking them into small, digestible chunks. They are available in both English and Spanish, and can be downloaded as PDFs for free. They are also available in physical booklet form for only $3 each. Contact Laura for booklets, 502-227-4511, ext 1349. These study booklets are perfect for either individual reading or small group study.
